ntioxidant and Antimelanogenic Activities of Panax ginseng Sprout Extract

Abstract

|
The current study evaluated the antioxidant and antimelanogenic activities of 50% ethanol extract of Panax ginseng sprout (PGS) at varying concentrations. Exposure to the PGS extract dose-dependently increased the 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging and tyrosinase inhibition activities. PGS extract treatment for 72 h did not affect viability of the B16F10 cells at concentrations of 10%, 50%, and 100%. Exposure to the PGS extract for 72 h significantly and dose-dependently suppressed melanin accumulation in B16F10 melanoma cells. In addition, treatment with PGS extracts down-regulated the expression levels of the MITF melanogenic transcription factor. Taken together, the above results indicate that the antioxidant and antimelanogenic activities of the PGS extract may be linked to the development of functional food or cosmetics.
